Study video below for those who prefer to watch or listen to studies.
In this post I draw a connection between Gods throne and the blue sky.
About a month ago I watched a Bible study on the Advent Media Connect YouTube channel called The Blue Stone of Sinai & the Messiah with Dr Daniel Buxton.
Please find the study slides here: Sinai Sanctuary & Blue Stone – Google Slides
In the study Dr Buxton discusses how the stones given to Moses with the Ten Commandments on were taken from Gods throne hence they were the colour of Sapphire, which is Blue.
After watching I couldn’t help but think of the verses talking about the Earth being God’s footstool.
Ezekiel 1:26 “And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.”
Ezekiel 10:1 “Then I looked, and, behold, in the firmament that was above the head of the cherubims there appeared over them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne.”
Exodus 24:10 “And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness.”
Isaiah 66:1 “Thus saith the Lord, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool…”
As per the NASA website the man derived scientific reason for the blue sky is because “sunlight reaches Earth’s atmosphere and is scattered in all directions by all the gases and particles in the air. Blue light is scattered more than the other colours because it travels as shorter, smaller waves. This is why we see a blue sky most of the time.”
As I was thinking over the Bible study it occurred to me, with a nudge from the Holy Spirit, that God is not a distant God. He created the Earth to house His most precious creation, mankind. It makes no sense that He would create us in His image then be gazillions of miles away and getting further away as the universe, apparently, keeps expanding. I believe that God’s throne is set just above the firmament and is not a huge distance away.
The blue we see in the sky isn’t the result of a random happening of particles and light waves. It’s the glowing Sapphire colour of God’s throne, the origin of the blue light. The blue sky tells us every single time we see it that God is near. He’s not far away.
The enemy wants us to believe that God is a distant, angry, vengeful and unjust God but the sky itself tells us the opposite.
I don’t know anyone that doesn’t love seeing the blue sky. It stirs a feeling that I previously couldn’t explain fully, I thought the feeling was me connecting with nature. Now I know it’s the reinforcing of my connection with God!
God uses His creation to speak to us, to let us know He’s always near to us. When I see the blue sky I thank God for always being close to us and when I see a rainbow I thank Him for always keeping His promises.
Next time you go outside look up to the blue sky and contemplate how our loving God is very close. We stay close to those we love. The Bible tells us that God’s love for us is unfathomable, therefore, He must be close by.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
