One of, if not the, biggest argument I hear against the Bible is that it was just written by men, it’s a story book of some sort or another. Another argument is that the Bible we have today is corrupted. I too partially believed these accusations because I hadn’t read it. Ignorance led me to believe whatever others told me about the word of God. When I started to read and study the Bible for myself, I soon learned that I was wrong, very wrong. The Bible itself declares its authenticity and trustworthiness in the scriptures themselves.
In 2 Timothy 3:16-17 we are told in no uncertain terms that “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
2 Peter 1:20-21 reads “ Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
In John 17:17 Jesus Himself declared “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
When reading Proverbs 30:5-6 we are counselled “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.”
It is not the word of God that is corrupted but the interpretation by man that renders it untrustworthy. The Bible interprets itself and with careful and prayerful study we, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, will be led to His truth, THE truth.
It’s not just the scriptures themselves that provide confirmation of the inspired nature of the Bible, there are other unquestionable proofs. For instance the Bible consists of 66 books with 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament. These books were written by approximately 40 men over a 1500 year period from approximately 1500BC to 95AD. These men came from diverse backgrounds. The books were written in 3 different languages, Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek, spanning 3 continents yet the Bible reads as though it was written by 1 author. Technically it was, God inspired the men via the Holy Spirit who dictated to them the Bible as we read it today.
There are arguments about things lost in translation and this is true, however, by reading the King James Version (KJV) and by using the Strongs Concordance which helps us to study the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek words originally used we can essentially read the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts ourselves. There have been many translations since the KJV and they all have their errors. It is very important to inform yourself correctly so you can choose the best translation for yourself. I struggle with the KJV so use the KJVER (King James Version Easy Reader) alongside the Strong’s Concordance. I have a paper Bible and use the e-Sword Bible app on my laptop which includes the Strongs Concordance references in their KJV+ translation. If you want to find out more on the differences between translations check out Walter Veith’s video “Battle of the Bibles” where he explains the nuances.
There are approximately 2500 prophecies in the Old and New Testaments of which approximately 2000 have been fulfilled, not one single prophecy has failed. There are approximately 500 prophecies that are still due to be fulfilled. In fact, we are seeing Bible prophecy being fulfilled before our very eyes as Jesus’s return (2d coming) draws nearer! For more information and statistics on the fulfilment of prophecies in the Bible please check out this document: Fulfilled-Prophecies.pdf
As a result of continued reading and studying the Bible and learning of the prophecies and their fulfilments I 100% trust the word of God! I know, without a doubt, that every word written in the Bible is Truth from the Creation account in the beginning of Genesis to the New Earth as described in the last chapter of Revelation. You can trust the Bible too!
If you like deep diving you can find a plethora of secular historical documents and other evidences confirming the veracity of the Bible too with more discoveries being made every year.
