The Reason for the Season

”For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

We have reached Christmas 2025 and the same old arguments are going back and forth as to whether we should or shouldn’t be celebrating Christmas. I agree that we shouldn’t celebrate the way the world does. I am more than aware that Jesus wasn’t born in December and that the Bible doesn’t give Jesus’s birthday because, quite frankly, we’d only turn it into an idol and worship the day instead of our Lord.

While the world is focusing on drinking too much, eating too much and indulging themselves and others with expensive gifts, lets take the opportunity to bring the focus back to what the holiday is supposed to be about. The miraculous birth of our wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

His birth was prophesied centuries in advance:

“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14

“But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” Micah 5:2

“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.” Jeremiah 23:5

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

The most exciting thing for me is when I think of all the prophecies that Jesus fulfilled, not one single one failed, and they point me to the prophecies of His soon return.

“So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” Hebrews 9:28

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

“And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” Matthew 24:30

“When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory” Matthew 25:31

As we give thanks for what Jesus did for us all those years ago let’s also thank Him for His sure word and His promises to take us home one day soon where He has prepared a place for us (John 14:1-3) and where we will live in the presence of God for all eternity.

Have a blessed day, may the Lord bless you all abundantly in 2026.
